Latest Generation

2020-2024

The 2024 Sentra represents a complete transformation from its previous models, emerging as one of the best sedans in its class. It features a sophisticated design, an engine and transmission combination that provides smooth acceleration, and a more advanced rear suspension for comfortable riding and nimble handling. The interior, particularly in the SR and SV trims, appears upscale and includes options for a power driver's seat, leather upholstery, and heated front seats. The rear seat is spacious, and the infotainment system is user-friendly. Standard safety features include Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection and blind-spot warning. The 2020 redesign marked a significant shift for the Sentra. It shed its previous lackluster appearance and performance, offering an improved driving experience. This generation brought a pleasant engine-transmission pairing, an advanced rear suspension, and an upscale interior, especially noticeable in the SR and SV trims. Standard features now included Android Auto and Apple CarPlay across all trims, and Nissan's Safety Shield 360 provided a comprehensive safety package. The updates in 2021 further enhanced the infotainment and safety features.

Previous Generation

2013-2019

The 2013 redesign of the Sentra was a mixed bag, with a diminished steering feel and subpar ride quality. While the equipment levels were good, the interior felt cheap, and the engine was noisy. Standard features included stability control, traction control, and antilock brakes. The fuel economy improved with the CVT transmission. The 2015 update brought a standard USB port and Bluetooth across all models, and 2018 saw the addition of automatic emergency braking and forward collision warning on most models.

2000-2006

Prior to 2007, the Sentra was one of the more pleasant small sedans to drive. It had a spirited powertrain, decent handling, and a reasonably quiet, well-designed interior with ample storage. The major controls were well-designed and easy to use, with clear instrumentation. However, this version of the Sentra had started to fall behind its competitors in terms of dynamics. The ride quality was stiff, braking performance was not up to par, and the rear seat was cramped. Additionally, this generation received a poor rating in the IIHS side-crash test without the optional side airbags.
